must escape
or its goose

who knows very well
where his next meal
is coming from.

Where there’s a will,
there’s a bar of chocolate
and a treadmill.

A stitch in time
holds that moment steady
between the tick and tock,
the in-breath and the out,
the now and then.

A rolling stone tells me
of distances yet to be traveled
before I gather moss.

I still miss our little Brandy.
